Weekly Blog Tip: Achievable Blogging Goals

Business Blogging Tips & Insights From StoreBlogs

Achievable Blogging Goals

We’re happy to announce a new series we’ll be starting today called, the “Weekly Blog Tip.” At the beginning of every week StoreBlogs will be posting an informational, and hopefully very helpful, blogging tip.

The overall purpose of our weekly blogging tips series is to help StoreBlogs bloggers become more familiar with blogs in general and to share professional insights designed to help our members build a better understanding of what to expect from the blogging world.

Setting achievable blogging goals that are realistic and reaching the milestones you set in place during initial stages allows you to measure the rate at which your blog progresses, but more importantly it can help to determine how well you are able to communicate your message(s) with your blogs target audience. Being able to rate and measure your progress, or lack of, is good because it helps to present a more clear picture of what it will take for you to become a successful blogger within your chosen niche.

Thinking About & Implementing Realistic Blogging Goals

This week’s tip attempts to get you to think about, and hopefully begin to implement realistic goals for your online business blog. Since this is the very first weekly blog tip we wanted to give you a good starting point and something simple to strive for; the goals we we will be discussing fall under the following topics including community, pre-written content, consistency, learning and listening to your readers.

Building a Community:

One of the most important factors to any blog is having a quality community built around the blog. It definitely takes time to attract subscribers to your blog, but chances are if someone is interested in your storefront or products they will most likely be interested in reading your business blog too. A blog community results in more comments to your blog and that can result in a much more informative and useful blog for everyone who participates in the community. Some good ways to built and grow your blog community include posting often, sharing your content across popular social networks and contributing to similar blogs or communities within your niche.

Content in Advance:

As you may already know, writing content for your blog and posting it regularly is an important step with any blog, business or personal. This demand on the blogger is also one of the main reasons blogs fail. Having blog content written in advance will definitely prove worthy at some point in your blogging career, especially at times when you cannot write new blog entries, may it be illness, vacation, or even a case of writer’s block. When you’re unable to post as often as you’d like, already having a built up bank of pre-written blog posts will allow you to stay on schedule, keeps your readers sticking around and can even help increase blog subscribers.

Staying Consistent:

Consistency is key. Establish a posting schedule and stick to it! Initially it may not seem like a big deal to you but lack of consistency is usually why a blog looses popularity among subscribers. As your consistency falls off, so will the number of followers to your blog. Your blog readers enjoy scheduled periodic updates, it gives them something to look forward to, something to get excited about and something they want to come back for time and time again. Ensuring that you’re posting to your blog on a regular basis is very important if you hope to keep your business blog’s community together.

Learning From Mistakes:

Lets face it, bloggers are human and we all make mistakes from time to time. It all comes down to the steps you take to avoid them, and what you do when they happen. Blogging should be a learning experience, as with all learning experiences you will make mistakes along the way. Being able to recognize your mistakes as they happen and taking what you’ve learned to correct them in the future can be the single most important factor that contributes to your blogs success. The biggest error to make would be to not take those mistakes into consideration and commit similar mistakes in the future.

Listening to Readers:

A blog’s readers are the bloggers livelihood, without them there would be no point to blogging. We blog for our readers and that is what motivates most blog authors to write in the first place. It is very important that you do not ignore your reader’s feedback or comments, after all they are taking their time to provide you with their input and suggestions. There may even be times when you disagree with their advice, but at the very least you should acknowledge them by responding. And, if you actually implement the changes suggested by your readers it will make them feel like their opinions are more valued and helps create a sense of belonging within your business blog’s community.

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning about these five basic goals that most business bloggers should strive for during the early stages of blogging. Hopefully this week’s tip will help put a perspective on the direction your blog should be headed in, or at least provided some insight into the blogging realm.

As always, if you happen to have questions of your own, or you feel like you need some more details surrounding achieving blogging goals, please leave your comments.
